Facebook’s new feature of “fan” websites might be / have been an answer. That feature allows fans to *choose* is they want to receive e-mail from the person or band or organization or product that they “fan”.

Thanks for stopping by, Jeremy.

I agree that becoming a spam machine would be a terrible fate for Facebook. I’m sure there’s also some concern about too much data flying around, weighing down the servers, etc.

Whatever the reasoning might be, I think it’s a huge problem. If they want power users and power advertisers and power groups, limits like 5,000 friends and 1,200 message recipients and whatnot need to go.

The cap on emails makes sense, in a way that they don’t want FB to turn into a SPAM machine.

But, well, if you join a group, you THINK you’d want the emails, rigt?
